Yobe State Empowers Farmers with $2.5 Million Interest-Free Loan: A Game Changer for Agricultural Growth

The Yobe State Government, in collaboration with the World Bank-assisted Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, has taken another significant step towards fostering economic growth and youth empowerment in Nigeria. The state recently launched the second disbursement of a $2,525,000 interest-free community revolving fund loan, benefiting 101 farming communities and farmer groups.

Governor Mai Mala Buni's Vision for Agricultural Growth

During the official launch, Governor Mai Mala Buni emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government's commitment to driving economic prosperity through agriculture. The interest-free loan is strategically designed to create employment opportunities, encourage agricultural expansion, and strengthen local economies.
This occasion marks another milestone achieved by the state government in supporting 101 communities, in line with our policy on youth empowerment,” Buni stated.

As part of his youth-centric approach, the governor directed that 4,825 slots out of the total 7,340 slots be allocated to young individuals. This ensures that the youth remain actively engaged in farming activities and benefit maximally from the program.
With a previous disbursement successfully reaching 10 pilot communities in Damaturu and Nguru local government areas—each receiving $25,000 (N32,500,000) last year—the program continues to gain traction. This revolving loan facility allows communities and farmer groups to expand their agricultural ventures, strengthening their role in environmental management and economic sustainability.

Governor Buni encouraged beneficiaries to utilize the funds responsibly and ensure timely repayment. This would pave the way for further incentives and support from the government.
We have a duty to join hands to effectively combat economic, environmental, and other social challenges for the betterment of our people and the state,
the governor remarked, underscoring the need for cooperative efforts in tackling agricultural and economic challenges.

He also reaffirmed Yobe State's commitment to fostering more partnerships with the federal government and international organizations to uplift its people.
