Five Markets Affected by Fire in Two Months

No fewer than five major markets in Oyo State have been ravaged by fire in the last two months. These include:

- Sango Market

- Agodi Gate Spare Parts Market

- Gbaremu Market

- Olodo Market

- Oke-Itunu and Oranyan Markets (partially affected)

The government’s intervention aims to restore the livelihood of traders and ensure they regain financial stability. According to Balogun, the support grant is targeted at affected traders in Gbaremu, Sango, Oke-Itunu, and Oranyan markets.

Speaking at the event, Balogun emphasized the importance of the intervention:
This event is another way the Oyo State Government shows concern for the welfare of its residents. We observed that the fire outbreaks affected not just the direct victims but also their dependents, with each trader responsible for 10 to 20 people. Our goal is to help them regain self-sufficiency so they can continue supporting their families.

Beyond financial support, the Oyo State Government is taking proactive measures to prevent future fire outbreaks. As part of the initiative, training sessions will be organized for women traders to educate them on fire prevention and mitigation strategies in marketplaces. This move is expected to reduce the frequency of fire incidents and safeguard the livelihoods of countless traders across the state.
