Grant, who was working in Hollywood at the time, and Chase, who was wrapping up her master’s degree in film, saw firsthand how many talented Texans left for more lucrative opportunities. Chase even faced this challenge herself when planning her first feature film—despite wanting to shoot in Texas, the financial incentives in Louisiana made filming there a more viable option.
