Adamu Aliyu Jallah, the APC’s Publicity Secretary, defended the reforms as a globally recognized strategy for achieving economic stability and equitable resource distribution.
"For Nigeria to compete favorably with developing nations, it must embrace progressive taxation policies,"Jallah remarked, emphasizing that tax reform is neither radical nor new but an essential step for any forward-thinking government.
He challenged Governor Mohammed's outright rejection of the bills, encouraging him to adopt a more constructive approach by engaging federal authorities to address any specific concerns he may have about the proposed legislation.
The APC did not stop at defending the reforms; it also launched a scathing critique of Governor Mohammed’s administration. Jallah alleged that despite receiving N144 billion in Federation Account Allocations, alongside additional federal funds and palliatives, Bauchi State has seen little progress in terms of tangible development projects.
"Let the governor account for all the funds received during this administration,"Jallah demanded, casting a spotlight on allegations of mismanagement and lack of transparency. This accusation comes at a time when citizens are grappling with delayed salaries and underwhelming infrastructure development in the state.
The governor’s privatization agenda also came under fire. Jallah accused the state government of privatizing state-owned companies under the guise of enhancing efficiency, only to allocate these assets to associates of the governor. The APC raised concerns that this move has not only failed to stimulate economic productivity but also exacerbated unemployment and financial insecurity in the state.
“Meanwhile, salaries in the state have been delayed for months, with some workers going unpaid for as long as three years,”Jallah noted, urging the governor to prioritize the welfare of civil servants and implement measures that directly benefit the people.

However, the APC insists that collaboration and constructive dialogue, rather than criticism, are necessary to address the state and nation’s economic challenges.
As Nigerians await the passage of the Tax Reform Bills, the political drama unfolding in Bauchi State serves as a reminder of the intricate balance between federal policy and local governance. While the APC advocates for reform as a tool for progress, it remains to be seen whether Governor Mohammed will rise to the challenge of accountability and transparency that his administration’s critics demand.
The conversation sparked by the APC's call for tax reform and fiscal responsibility highlights broader questions about governance in Nigeria. Will these tax reforms bring the promised economic transformation? More importantly, will state leaders align their policies with the greater good of their constituents?
The people of Bauchi, like many across Nigeria, will be watching closely as these issues unfold—hoping for a future where leadership, reform, and accountability align to drive real progress.
