The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied rumors that it has invited former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election on its platform. In an interview with BBC Hausa, the party's deputy spokesperson, Ibrahim Abdullahi, clarified that no ticket has been offered to Jonathan. Abdullahi explained that the confusion arose from a previous interview where he discussed Jonathan's eligibility for the presidency.
He stated that Jonathan, as a Nigerian citizen, is legally allowed to run for a second term, as he still has one term remaining. Abdullahi emphasized that the PDP has many qualified individuals who could seek the presidency and that the party's ticket will only be given to someone who expresses interest in running. The clarification puts to rest any misconceptions that the PDP has made an official offer to Jonathan for the 2027 race.
